Neighbourhood Watch: Three Border Talks in One Week

A trade corridor, a fisheries dispute and a visa regime — the unglamorous diplomacy that actually moves.

Foreign-affairs coverage over-indexes on summits and under-indexes on working groups. The working groups are where things change.

The corridor. Freight transit agreements are boring in inverse proportion to their impact. This one shaves days off a route and will never trend.

The fisheries file. Detained boats are a recurring humanitarian story with a fixed resolution pattern: release before a scheduled bilateral, deny linkage.

The visa regime. Quiet liberalisation for students and medical travel. High goodwill, low cost, minimal domestic downside — the most reliable trade in the diplomatic playbook.

None of this makes a good thumbnail. All of it outlasts the summit photo.

How much popcorn was this?

1 bucket = raw kernel. 5 buckets = burnt popcorn, total scandal.
